Somethin’ ‘Bout Tomorrow
Mark Bishop Evans
Somethin’ ’bout tomorrow makes me know it’s all worthwhile
Somethin’ ‘bout tomorrow makes me lift my head and smile
If today I took a step or two, Lord, tomorrow I’ll walk a mile
Somethin’ in the evenin’ says there’s better times to come
Somethin’ in the evenin’ when the day is nearly done
Brings me hope for livin’, I smile and greet the mornin’ sun.
Somethin’ ‘bout tomorrow, comforts all the sorrow
Huddled in the cold night waiting for the warm light
Miracles are born in each and every mornin’
Hoping just to borrow somethin’ ‘bout tomorrow
Somethin’ in the sunrise all blue and bright and red
Somethin’ in the sun rise as it greets me in my bed
Makes me throw back my covers, Lord, smile and lift my head

Liza Liza - Mark Bishop Evans
Liza, Liza won’t you come and dance with me
Around that old willow tree
Share my soul, share my mind tonight
Liza, Liza won’t you come and sing your song
til my memory is gone
Sing it high, sing it soft, sing it low
Chorus 1
Liza, Liza won’t you sing and dance tonight
Liza, Liza won’t you say that it’s alright
Liza, Liza won’t you let your hair fall down
Falling softly all around
Let fall to the floor, Liza more
Liza, Liza won’t you come and stay with me
Come down softly by my side
Be my friend for a while, be my bride
Chorus 2
Liza, Liza won’t you stay with me tonight
Liza, Liza for the rest of my life
Liza, Liza won’t you come and dance with me
Around the old willow tree
Be my friend for a while, be my bride
Be my friend make me smile Liza mine

Touch in the Dark

A Touch in the Dark
How I miss you standing there
All that sunlight on your hair, I know you see
We pay for liberty when we’re alone.
And that’s not half as bad
As some pains that I have had in my life
So if you cry at night you’re not alone
And I knew you at the start
I could feel you like a touch in the dark
When love is in your heart you’re not alone
Many other roads I’ve crossed
Yet I still seem at a loss to explain
The comfort in the rain when you’re alone
So when your spirit starts to bend
And you find you need a friend to help you through the storm
I’ll hold you in my arms when you’re alone
Chorus
When the road through life gets long
Listen softly to this song and pour the wine
Just think of me and find you’re not alone
Just pour the wine Until the end of time you’re not alone

Dance Gypsy Dance

Dance Gypsy Dance – Mark Bishop Evans
In a small town north of Salem I met a fair young girl
Her eyes and hair were black as coal, her skin as white as pearl
She asked me if I’d follow her to where the road would bend
And as we walked down thru the night this song came on the wind
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance
As we came down near the bend a light shown in the sky
I saw a bond fire blazing with the flames all reaching high
A dozen wagons circled round all gathered in a ring
And as we stepped into the light, I heard the people sing
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance
As we stood together her head began to sway
The more she moved her body the more the music played
With laughing eyes, she danced away into the center ring
Then all the people clapped their hands, and all began to sing
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance
I watched her dance all thru the night until the coming day
With all the people gathered round I overheard one say
“You’ve never seen a girl like her, she’ll dance from night til dawn
And as I walked back home alone I still could hear her song
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance
Dance gypsy dance, gypsy dance, gypsy dance

Turtle Shell

Turtle Shell – Mark Bishop Evans
Found a turtle shell on a beach one day and I had to think it queer
How a turtle could come to lose a thing so obviously dear
As I pondered this I realized much to my dismay
That I knew just how that turtle felt on the day you walked away
Saw a rabbit’s foot hanging on a pole in a booth at the county fair
And I wondered how that rabbit felt and if he had a foot to spare
And as I made my way back home alone I really think I knew
The way that poor ol’ rabbit felt on the day that I lost you
Like a ocean without a swell, like a flower without a smell
Like a wizard without a spell, yeah that’s me
Like a dog without a bone I’m gonna spend my life alone
Like a turtle without a shell yeah, that’s me
Saw a hotrod at an auto show with a foxtail flying high
And I bet that fox when he lost that thing had to sit right down and cry
Does he wander thru the forest now in a daze the way I do
Does he miss his long and fluffy tail as much as I miss you
Like a ocean without a swell, like a flower without a smell
Like a wizard without a spell, yeah, that’s me
Like a dog without a bone I’m gonna spend my life alone
Like a turtle without a shell yeah, that’s me
Like a hammer without a nail or a handle without a pail
Like a schooner without a sail, yeah that’s me
Like a traveler without a home I’m gonna live my life alone
Like a turtle without a shell, yeah that’s me

Don't Stop Your Dreams

Don’t Stop Your Dreams
Mark Bishop Evans
It’s hard to know when timing’s wrong, takes more than words to make a song.
What you say and what you mean are different still from what you dream.
Who can say if dreams will last when future visions mirror the past.
If you believe as many do then you will see your dreams come true.
(Chorus) So don’t you ever stop your dreamin’ or cover up your eyes
Don’t miss the midnight lightening or sunsets golden skies.
For all these things are set apart for those who long to see
So darlin’ don’t you ever stop your dreams.
When life can change from day to day the dawn can chase your dreams away.
It takes so long for time to show the more we learn the less we know.
Chorus
Close your eyes and then you’ll see that life is hard but dreams are free.
To reach the moon you try for the stars and out of reach is not too far.
Chorus

Breakin' Down

Breakin’ Down – Mark Bishop Evans
Sister ocean I must take your lead, take your hand or I’ll fail
Twisting wind she has caught me now in her sail
Let me drift to a time ago, on your waves carry me
Have the mist come a clear my eyes so I can see
Breakin’ down in the dark of night. Breakin’ down in the day
Sorry girl seems you went away to stay
Bring the morning with a golden sky, let the clouds open wide
Make this shadow of a lonely night step aside
Lead me far from this barren land. Push me on or I’ll stand
Free my heart from this cloud of white burning sand
Breakin’ down in the dark of night. Breakin’ down in the day
Sorry girl seems you went away to stay
Thunder mountain seems you are my rest, far below the valley calls
Mornin’ star guide my broken path lest I fall

4th Iron (The Queen of the Ball) By Mark Bishop Evans – 12/24/2018
There’s a place in the mountains a bit north of Conway a train trestle spans a ravine.
They call it the 4rth Iron for obvious reasons, the fourth bridge that crosses the stream.
Late in her life she would sometimes just sit there and watch as the water flowed by,
being grateful for the goodness her 95 years had supplied.
She was born to a family of adequate means, deep in society’s game.
She grew up the apple of everyone’s eye and gathered some honors and fame.
A beautiful child that more often smiled than ever gave in to a frown,
more glad in the forest than wearing tiaras and gowns.
She rose to the top of society’s pedestal, had all that she could desire.
But when war took the nation she rushed to the aid of the boys that the country required.
She served without thought all the ones who had fought and were so often far from their homes.
So they made her the Queen of the Ball and they called her their own.
Chorus
Now I’m standing on 4th Iron over the water that rushes and tumbles and falls.
As the mist in the valley collects in my eyes I remember the Queen of the Ball.
My tears and her ashes all mingle together in memories that pour down like rain.
And I cling to the thoughts of the woman who loved me and I cherish the joy and the pain.
By the end of the war there were men by the score all rushing to ask for her hand.
But she loved a Marine who was dashing and clean and soon at the alter they’d stand.
Next came her son and she’d only have one which was something she couldn’t have known.
But when the soldier took leave then she raised up her baby alone.
For most of her years her son wasn’t near having wandered far off on his own.
And although she grieved she always believed that someday he would wander back home.
Though that didn’t happen the way she supposed it still came around in the end .
And 30 years later they found out that they were still friends.
Late in her 80’s she moved to the East, there to be close to her boy.
With walks in the forest and drives by the sea they recaptured those lost bits of joy.
She opened her heart and she told him her story and shared all her loves and her pains.
They laughed and they cried and then afterward he did the same.
For 95 summers, 95 spring times, 95 winters and falls,
she laughed and she cried but all she would say is how much she was blessed by it all.
If you’re one of the folks that was lucky to know her I’m sure you’ll always recall,
the smile on her face and the grace of the Queen of the Ball.
Chorus
So I’m standing on 4th Iron over the water that rushes and tumbles and falls.
As the mist in the valley collects in my eyes I remember the Queen of the Ball.
My tears and her ashes all mingle together in memories that pour down like rain.
And I cling to the thoughts of the woman who loved me and I cherish the joy and the pain.
And I cling to the thoughts of the woman who raised me and fashioned the man I became.

Don't You Think I know

Don’t You Think I Know
Mark Bishop Evans
Oh girl, don’t you think I know? You try to hide but it always shows
I can see it in the way you look. I can read it like an open book. Oh girl, don’t you think I know?
Oh girl, is the fire cold? It’s so sad when love get old.
I can feel it in the way you kiss. How long can we go on like this? Oh girl, don’t you think I know?
Nothing’s feeling the way that it should. Now you won’t and before you would.
It’s all around in the air I’m breathin’. All too clear that you’re gonna be leavin’.
Feelings come and feelings go. The mountains high and the valleys low. Oh girl, don’t you think I know?
Oh girl, has the time run out? Your eyes they say it with a shout.
I can see it in way you smile. I’ve known it now for quite a while. Oh girl, don’t you think I know?

Big Sur Lullaby

Big Sur Lullaby
Sweet breath of springtime you're taking your sweet time
The winter is over and summer is near
All of your blossoms that bloom in their season
The Gardens of Eden will soon reappear
(Chorus)
Big Sur you're calling me back to the trees
Towering Redwoods are something to see
Whenever I'm lonely or feeling so blue
Big Sur I'm happy just thinking of you.
Sandpipers shower the land with their shadows
As wandering brooks gently flow to the sea
Cast off your troubles and walk on the seashore
The sunset is coming and soon you'll be free
(Chorus)
When I go ramblin' my heart often wearies
Of keeping the game up and trying to stand
That's when a feelin' comes deep from my memory
Starts tuggin' and pullin' me back to this land

A Laugh or Two
Mark Bishop Evans
After all the words have come and gone.
After winter days so cold and long
After we’re alone, when there is no more tryin’,
maybe we could have a laugh or two
I wouldn’t try to bring you any pain
or chase away your sun or bring you rain.
All I have in mind, after all the time together
maybe we could have a laugh or two.
I don’t have mind to try and change the tide.
It’s more than just a question of our pride
That kept driving us on.
But after all the songs, after days so long and weary
maybe we could have a laugh or two
After moonlight fades into the dawn
pushing back the clouds to find the sun.
Remember if you will all the times our hearts were flyin’
and maybe we could have a laugh or two
Instru:
There’s no way to count the time in years
and pride can’t stop the loneliness and fears
Only time can heal.
But after “no regrets” after all the bets are canceled
maybe we could have a laugh or two
After moonlight fades into the dawn
pushing back the clouds to find the sun.
Remember if you will all the times our hearts were flyin’
and maybe we could have a laugh or two
