Still it Rains
Words by Mark Bishop Evans 2021
I don’t think I’ve ever been so lonely Don’t think I’ve ever been so cold
It seems it just might rain forever, while I’m just standing here, collecting useless tears
I don’t think I’ve ever been so lost, or just mislaid my will for living
And it seems it just might rain forever, and I keep standing here, collecting random fears
I once knew something more than pain, then it rained, O how it rained
I lost my will to try again, in the rain, still it rains
I don’t think I’ve ever felt so sad. I don’t think that I’ll forget this story
I think it just might rain forever, but I’ll keep standing here, convinced the sky will clear
I once knew something more than pain, then it rained, still it rains
I have no will to try again, when it rains, and still it rains
I don’t think I’ve ever been so sad. I don’t think that I’ll forget this story
I think it just might rain forever, but I’ll keep standing here, convinced the sky will clear
While it rains, still it rains, and it rains, still it rains. still it rains

By the River in the Vale

By the River in the Vale – Mark Bishop Evans - 20220418
In a cottage in the meadow the old singer lives alone
They say that he had family once that have all passed or grown
Sometimes you’ll hear music when you’re walking on that trail
It happens most at twilight by the river in the vale
It was many years ago now that he walked into that vale
And sitting by the river there in twilight soft and pale.
Her smile it took his breath away warmed him to the core.
And from that moment on his heart was hers for evermore
They married in the Springtime and soon they had a son
Then they had a daughter and then another one.
It’s said they had a love so deep as to make the oceans stir. >
And every song the singer sang was another song for her
It happened in the Winter as these things often do
The fever came and took her and almost took him too
What saved him was his children who were still so young and frail.
And they buried her at twilight by the river in the vale
Alone he raised his children to be loving and be strong
They mostly knew their mother from the songs their Daddy sung.
Now they often come to visit to listen to his tales >
Of the lovers in the twilight by the river in the vale
There’s sunshine in the meadow and a breeze among the trees
Hand and hand they walk the hills within his memories.
They say that he’s just waiting now to let his heart take sail.
And join her in the twilight by the river in the vale.
They say he haunts the meadow and plays his old guitar
Singing songs, he wrote for her beneath the moon and stars
Sometimes you’ll hear music when you’re walking on that trail
It happens most at twilight by the river in the vale
And finally, they’re together by the river in the vale.

No Guarantee – Mark Bishop Evans – 20220302
She opened the door, and a smile touched her eyes.
She couldn’t have known who was there
I looked like a waif standing there in the rain
but somehow, I knew she wouldn’t care
She opened her arms, and she offered a sigh,
and then she said, “Well, what have we here?”
I gathered her up, held her close to my heart
and felt all the time disappear – the time disappear
She invited me in from the night and the cold.
“Would you care for a warm cup of tea?”
“Here, give me that coat, can you stay for a while?
Feels like it’s been centuries.”
I couldn’t but notice that the passing of time
hadn’t touched her at all
And the joy of this girl I still loved
wasn’t hard to recall
(Chorus)
How could we know that the love of a friend
can run as deep as the sea
Take all the love that is there when you can
for life gives you no guarantee – no guarantee
We sat and we talked of the lives we had known.
All of the sorrows and the joys
We both had our share of stories to tell.
“Oh, by the way, how are your boys?”
It finally came round to the past we had shared
as both of us knew that it would.
Remembering nights way beyond any dream
and sharing what love that we could - love that we could
Morning has come and we’re still sitting here.
The night and the past flown away
Turning I saw she was looking at me.
“So, tell me, how long can you stay?”

Andy's Place

Andy’s Place – by Mark Bishop Evans - July 14, 2022
There’s a place in the valley most people can show you the street
The sign on the door says the place is called Andy and Pete’s
It’s known for the chowder and fine music played on guitars
Pete was the singer and Andy he tended the bar.
Now Andy’s the worker and Pete, he’s the partying’ kind
But they worked well together, and things had been going just fine
They’d been partners since childhood, their friendship was made long ago
But beginnings and endings are something we can’t always know
The bar was near empty the night that that lady came in
Pete sang her stories of the people and places he’d seen
He sat at her table, and they flirted for most of the night
When they left for the motel Andy said she didn’t seem right
The jukebox playing some country that nobody knows
And the couple that’s dancing are really too drunk and it shows
Outside the winds picking up and the storm clouds are gathering off to the West
And the neon’s inviting you to come in and give it a rest
Next day at noon time Pete called to say he’d be late
And when he never showed up Andy just assumed it was fate
And there the next day on the door was a note with a tack
Pete said he’s leaving not sure when or if he’ll be back
Be six months this Thursday and Pete finally dropped him a line
She left him in Tulsa and anyway he’s doing fine
The place hasn’t changed much except for the sign on the door
Andy’s, it says now, cause Pete isn’t there anymore

Why Don't We Talk

Why Don’t We Talk
Mark Bishop Evans
Why don’t we talk, say what’s on our minds, quit the walking blind
Go out and take a walk and just talk
Why don’t we smile, open up the doors, try for something more
Cuddle for a while and just smile
Why don’t we touch, baby try and break the ice, nothing too precise
I want so very much to just touch
Chorus
The sun and moon are waiting for a sign
The stars above are only passing time ‘til you’re mine
Why don’t we kiss, listen for the bells, darlin’ who can tell
We don’t know what we’ve missing ‘til we kiss
Inst.
Chorus
The sun and moon are waiting for a sign
The stars above are only passing time ‘til you’re mine
I know we’re in love, the truth is plain to see, forever you and me
Thank the stars above we’re in love

Crimson Rose by Mark Bishop Evans 2020
There’s a lady who waits beside fantasy’s’ gate, she carries a long crimson rose
A beautiful gift your spirit to lift in ways no one could suppose
A rose for your lady, sir, a prize from her beau? A symbol of love that’s so rare
For nature decreed that true love indeed be found in this flower you share
How could you suppose that one crimson rose could carry you so far away?
Bring tears to her eyes and make her heart fly, and say things that words never say
A rose is a treat, scented so sweet, and all broken hearts soon will heal
While certain things last and other things pass a rose has a beauty you feel
When evening is done a new morning comes, the rose will remind her of this
She’ll open her eyes, breathe a soft sigh still recalling the thrill of your kiss

The Mockingbird

The Mockingbird – by Mark Bishop Evans 20220410
As twilight slips to night and the moon is on the rise
Beneath the fading light the Whip-Poor-Will arrives
He settles to the ground there to sing his song
A soft and lovely sound for love to sing along
While high up in the trees the Mockingbird appears
And softly on the breeze he mimics what he hears
And to the creatures of the night the songs both sound the same
And so the Whip-Poor-Will takes flight and the Mockingbirds to blame
And the Whip-Poor-Will is calling in the night and hopes true love will hear
And the Mockingbirds answer is unkind to makes him think his love is near
The road is often long. The toll is always high.
But those who have a song will always find the sky
And though they fly alone and leave the night behind
Their hearts remain their own and love is theirs find
And the Whip-Poor-Will is calling in the night and hopes true love will hear
And the Mockingbirds answer is unkind to make him think his love is near
So, it seems they play the story of our lives and our endless hope for love
While the Mockingbirds are singing in the night not a friend to anyone.
While the Mockingbirds are singing in the night not a friend to anyone.
And the Mockingbird is laughing in the dawn never caring what he’s done.

My Fantasies

My Fantasies _ Mark Bishop Evans – 12/09/18.
Like Daffodils and butterflies or dragon clouds in summer skies
Like autumn trees and cherry pies or fishes in the sea
Like Marion and Robinhood, or ancient rocking chairs of wood
that long before the hearth have stood in hospitality
Like waking to an Elven song and finding out that you belong
To a family both kind and strong where all are wise and free
Like swords of steel and armor bright or fires glowing in the night
Or leading a most noble fight to keep the kingdom free
All of these things come true when I just look at you
Everything old is new. How can that be?
Listen, my heart just sings. Soars thru the sky on wings
Reserved for gods and kings, but now they’re for me
Like falling down a rabbit hole or reading an enchanted scroll
Like dancing with a mountain troll or talking with a tree
All these feelings in me rise and more that I cannot disguise
When I get lost within your eyes and live my fantasies
All of these things come true when I just look at you
Everything old is new. How can that be?
Listen, my heart just sings. Soars thru the sky on wings
Reserved for gods and kings, but now they’re for me
Listen, my heart just sings. Soars thru the sky on wings
Reserved for gods and kings, but now they’re for me
but now they’re for me, my fantasies

Takes a Pain

Takes a Pain to Know One – Mark Bishop Evans
On some quiet evening while sitting alone
I patiently ponder the loves that I’ve known, and I find
I never have lost
And mostly the pleasure was worth what it cost
For sure I’ve known heartaches and plenty of joy
By what other way will a girl or a boy come to know
The meaning of trust
To follow their feelings and do what they must
You just smile, it’s not always fun
Cause it takes a pain (for you) to know one
The answers to questions get lost in the sun
Again, I’ll explain through blue skies or rain
That It takes a pain to know one
While sifting through memories you risk being caught
By some old lost memory of something you though left behind
And buried for good
It may be surprising to find that you would
Have trouble relating the then to the now
Accepting that living will change you somehow, right or wrong
It’s still good to know
That all of your pieces are part of your whole
Once you’ve had sorrow you know how it feels
And you can discern the false from the real
In love you’ll have both the joy and the pain
You can’t lose the one while the other remains

Candle in the Wind

Candle in the Wind by Mark Bishop Evans.
I can’t hold a candle in the wind. I guess I’ll have to say it all again.
My love is like a candlelight and winter’s how you’ve been
And I can’t hold a candle in the wind.
You came into my life just like a storm. You wanted me to love and keep you warm
But all my love it seems to you is just a tiny flame
And I can’t hold a candle in the rain.
Chorus
I can chase the moon across the sky or climb the mighty mountains high
And even watch the way that life begins
I’m capable of many things. I even walk in other dreams
But I can’t hold a candle in the wind
If I could I’d build a fire tall to keep you warm winter, spring and fall
But I’d have to burn the best of me or else the fire would dim
And I can’t hold a candle in the wind
I can’t hold a candle in the wind I guess I’ll have to say it all again
But I wish I could surround myself in a lamp of glass and tin
Cause I can’t hold a candle to the wind
And when all is said and done, and you find yourself alone
Just look back on all the times I said “this is how it all would end”
Cause I can’t hold a candle in the wind.

I Believe in You by Mark Bishop Evans 1/1/22
The road is long, the mountains high. I know you’re strong, I’ve seen you try
Deep in the night when you’re alone, I know you fight your fears to own
Chorus 1
And you’ve climbed mountains in the moon light and soared with eagles where they flew
And I’ve seen the courage that is shining in your heart. So, I believe in you
All through the storm, you face to the wind. You throw back your arms, you push out your chin
You will not bow. You do not bend. No matter how or what they send
Chorus 2
Cause you’ve climbed mountains in the moonlight and soared with eagles where they flew
And you know that courage as it rises in your heart
And you believe in you
Someday the sky will try to fall when hero’s hide you will stand tall
No road too far. No task taboo. That’s who you are. That’s what you do.
Chorus 1
You climbed mountains in the moonlight and soared with eagles where they flew
And I’ve seen the courage that is shining in your heart
And I believe in you
Yes I believe in you, oh I, oh I believe in you

Cryin’ Time Again - Mark Bishop Evans
Cryin’ time again. I watched you walk away
And it’s cryin’ time again. I don’t know what to say
to show a sign I guess it wasn’t meant this time.
Still I’m glad that you were mine.
And it cryin’ time again. It had to be this way
And it’s cryin’ time again. Our time has slipped away
like in a dream
A solitary lover’s scheme. Nothing’s ever what it seems
and it’s crying time again
Days will steal the pain come the April rain it will all wash away
But ‘til that mornin’ comes I’ll say
It’s cryin’ time again, someday I’ll find away
And it’s crying time again, someday I know she’ll stay
And then I’ll see the way that love was meant to be
And then my nights will never be a cryin’ time again

What Counts

What Counts - 20210406 - by Mark Bishop Evans
I know there are things that I’ve done that other men only have dreamed
And then there are games that I’ve won when others could not make the team
I know there are roads that I’ve passed where others would surely get lost
But sometimes I traveled so fast I hardly can measure the cost
So it don’t really count what you’ve got as much as it counts who you are
And though beauty can help you a lot we learn so much more from our scars
I know I’ve had loves in my life that kindled the envy of men
I’ve soared upon wings to the heights and learned how to feign and pretend
In all this I truly have found that value and praise aren’t the same
Where riches and treasures abound, we tend to lose more that we gain.
Instru.
Now the fire of a ruby so fine grows dim with the passing of light
And the glow of the starts in the sky can’t happen until it is night
So it don’t really count what you’ve got as much as it counts who you are
And though beauty can help you a lot we learn so much more from our scars
